Leo Schmidt family donates a home. |
| 1974:
Koinonia Homes, Inc. is founded. Sr. Mary Charles Szczecinski
becomes the Administrator and eight women move into Leans
in Garfield Heights. |
| 1979:
The Way, located in South Euclid opens and becomes home to
eight women. |
| 1986:
Koinonia’s semi-independent living program is established
and serves three women. |
| 1987:
Benedict I opens in July; Tremont opens in August; Brooklyn
opens in September. |
| 1988:
Benedict II opens in January; Lee House opens in November.

| 1990:
Granger House opens in July and supported living. |
| 1992:
Smith House opens in November. |
| 1995:
Benedict House is converted to supported living. |
| 1996:
Benedict House is closed and 8 residents are transitioned
into supported living arrangements. |
| 2001:
Koinonia merges with Great Lakes Residential Services and
acquires a transitional foster care program, five group homes
(Van Aken House, Independence House, Stearns House, Wallings
House, and Seven Hills); two 24-hour supported living sites
(Ira and Hyde Park); and additional consumers. |
| 2003:
Koinonia changes its mission to: Partnering with people who
have developmental disabilities to achieve healthy, fulfilling,
enriched lives. |
| 2004:
Koinonia celebrates its 30th Anniversary! |
2006: Koinonia establishes a Day Habilitation and Vocational
Services program. The program moves into its own facility
in Brooklyn Heights, Ohio. |
| 2008:
Koinonia acquires nine ICF/MR facilities from Phoenix Residential,
another service provider. |
2009:
Koinonia celebrates its 35th Anniversary! Koinonia Community
Services, LLC, Koinonia Partners Unlimited, LLC and Koinonia
Enterprises, LLC are established. Koinonia's Adult Day Habilitation
and Vocational Services center moves to new facility.
